Mitochondrial transfer in the tumor microenvironment. Cancer cells promote mitochondrial transfer from mesenchymal cells by secreting certain activators. Mitochondria can then be transferred via tunneling nanotubes to cancer cells to rescue OXPHOS and promote chemoresistance.
