Note that n is the acyl-chain length, ΔG is the free energy differences between the open and closed state measured by Perozo et al., and ΔG′ is the deformation free energy difference predicted using the data of Powl et al. The relative free energy changes are defined ΔΔG ≡ ΔG − ΔG16 and ΔΔG′ ≡ ΔG′ − ΔG′16. (See the Appendix for more details on this calculation.)
