Ueff as a function of x for two different lipid surface densities (but Lm is the same). The maximal solubility limit is defined as the x value at which Ueff exceeds the chemical potential of the cholesterol in the crystal. We see that (regardless of the value of μcrystal) the solubility limit will be higher for the higher density bilayer. Note that the y axis is on a log scale.
