The angle γ is the instantaneous angle between z_R and z_D; the average of γ is restricted by the order potential characterized by the order parameter S. For adsorbed species θ is the experimental tilt angle between magnetic field and surface normal; ζ indicates the polar angle of the director with respect to the surface normal; and φ is the azimuthal angle with respect to the plane defined by the surface normal and the direction of the static magnetic field.
