The V. cholerae Fur box consensus sequence. Predicted, as well as experimentally verified, Fur box sequences within the promoters of known iron acquisition and metabolism genes in V. cholerae (Table 3) were used as the training set to derive a consensus sequence for the V. cholerae Fur binding site. WebLogo (65) was used to build a consensus sequence logo, in which the height of individual letters within a stack of letters represents the relative frequency of that letter at a given position, and the overall height of the stack represents the degree of conservation at that position.
