As there has been recently much discussion, more particularly in Germany, as to the mode of growth of bones, whether it is by expansion or by addition and absorption, or both, I think it worth while to reprint this paper, which was read at a meeting of the Cambridge Philosophical Society on November 9, 1863, and published in vol. xi. of the Transactions of that Society.—G.
