^aTwo replicate measurements for each line at each planting were made of the uninhibited rate and the subsequent rate established following addition of KCN (10 mm for planting 1, 2.5 mm for plantings 2 and 3). Residual O₂ uptake rates, in the presence of KCN and SHAM, were subtracted from the initial (total) rate and the rate in the presence of KCN to obtain corrected rates. Percent of total rate is the ratio of the corrected +KCN rate to corrected initial rate.
