TABLE 4.
Comparison of All-Cause Health Care Costs Between Patients With and Without Recurrence
| All-cause health care costs | Resected | Unresected | ||
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Adjusted monthly cost differencea | 95% CI | Adjusted monthly cost differencea | 95% CI | |
| Total costs, 2023 USD | 3,831 | (2,319-5,360) | 4,730 | (3,611-5,870) |
| Medical costs | 3,732 | (2,232-5,247) | 4,649 | (3,541-5,779) |
| Part D pharmacy costs | 92 | (−11-198) | 340 | (17-636) |
Monthly cost differences and P values were estimated using univariable generalized linear models with a Tweedie distribution (a compound Poisson-gamma distribution) and log-link function. The adjusted models controlled for age at index date, sex (reference: male), race (reference: White), region (reference: west), Charlson comorbidity index, disease stage at diagnosis (reference: stage III), cancer site (reference: oropharynx), primary treatment (reference: surgery only), and corresponding costs during the baseline period. A monthly cost difference greater than 0 indicates patients with recurrence incurred more health care costs than patients without recurrence.
USD = United States dollars.
