Table 5.
Distribution of Treatment Modalities by Histopathological Diagnosis in Women Living with HIV (WLHIV) with Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Infection
| Treatment | HSIL | LSIL | Inflammation/metaplasia | Carcinoma | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Thermal Ablation | 11 | 16 | 16 | 0 | 43 |
| LLETZ | 6 | 7 | 7 | 1# | 21 |
| Total | 17 | 23 | 23 | 1* | 64 |
This table details the chosen treatment methods, thermal ablation and Large Loop Excision of the Transformation Zone (LLETZ), in relation to the histopathological diagnoses (high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion [HSIL], low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion [LSIL], inflammation/metaplasia, or carcinoma). The data pertains to the 64 HPV-positive WLHIV who received treatment in the field clinics. *This patient, who presented with definitive clinical features of invasive cervical cancer, was referred for comprehensive cancer management at the anchor centre after initial biopsies confirmed the diagnosis. #This patient had a major lesion with no clinical suspicion of cancer on colposcopy, but the LLETZ specimen revealed invasive cancer, necessitating recall and referral for further investigation and treatment. HSIL = high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion; LSIL = low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion; LLETZ = Large Loop Excision of the Transformation Zone.
