Table 7.

Relative change in percentage hemolysis in dogs from a multivariable mixed-effects Gamma model.

Predictor Contrast/scale Relative change in hemolysis (%, 95% CI) Test (stat) p-value
Donor age Per year 0.50% (0.44 to 0.55) Wald t = 17.68 <0.001
Unit volume Per 10 mL −0.69% (−0.74 to −0.65) Wald t = −29.75 <0.001
Storage duration Per day 11.18% (11.12 to 11.24) Wald t = 381.96 <0.001
Blood type (overall) — — Type II χ2(1) = 41941.39 <0.001
PCV range (overall) — — Type II χ2(7) = 6039583.13 <0.001

Estimates are multiplicative relative changes in percentage hemolysis from a multivariable mixed-effects Gamma model (log link) with a random intercept for donor ID. Continuous predictors are interpreted per unit as indicated (age per year; storage duration per day; unit volume per 10 mL). For multi-level predictors (blood type, PCV), the table shows overall Type II Wald χ2 tests; contrasts with the reference level are reported elsewhere. In dogs, longer storage is associated with higher hemolysis (≈11.18% per week; 95% CI 11.12 to 11.24). Hemolysis is higher in DEA 1-positive than in DEA 1-negative units. Across PCV bands, hemolysis is highest at <40% and lowest at 76–80%. PCV: packed cell volume; CI: confidence interval.
