Exogenous Maml rescues transactivation by ΔRAM in HeLa cells but cannot rescue Δ2105 activity. HeLa cells were transfected with the indicated Nic derivatives (0.1 μg), increasing amounts of Maml (0.2 and 0.4 μg), Hes-1 luciferase plasmid (0.4 μg), and CMV-βgal (0.2 μg). Luciferase values were determined 48 h posttransfection and are expressed as average increase in activation over cells transfected with GFP, as determined in three independent experiments performed in duplicate. Error bars represent the standard deviations from each set. Maml augments transcriptional activity of both Nic and ΔRAM but has no effect on Δ2105 activity.
