Telomere maintenance by recombination in the absence of telomerase. In the absence of telomerase, telomeres become progressively shorter and are maintained by RAD52-dependent recombination. Two types of recombination events give rise to survivors: RAD51-, RAD54-, and RAD57-dependent recombination between Y′ sequences, and RAD50- and RAD59-dependent recombination between T G1-3 tracts.
