All models were adjusted for age, sex, education level, marital status, residence, smoking, drinking, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, heart disease, stroke, cancer, arthritis, and chronic lung disease unless otherwise specified. The “Without adjusting for vision variables” model excluded distance and near vision scores from the covariates. The “Additionally adjusting for race/ethnicity” model further included race/ethnicity (White, Black, Other) as a covariate. HR, hazard ratio; CI, confidence interval; Ref., reference group.
