The completeness of the lesion was classified according to the American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA) scale (Maynard et al. 1997), ASIA B motor complete but sensory incomplete, ASIA C sensory and motor incomplete, but with more than half of muscles below injury level having a muscle grade (estimated via manual muscle test) of less than 3 out of 5 ASIA D sensory and motor incomplete with at least half of the muscles below the level of the injury having a muscle grade of 3 or higher.
