All strains competed against wild-type 14028 except for strain MA7073, which competed against strain MA6054 (ara-907 araD901::MudJ).
CI was calculated according to the formula in Materials and Methods, with the mutant as strain A and the wild type as strain B.
All assays were performed i.p. using BALB/c mice.
