(A) Cells cultured to mid-log phase in YPD medium were spotted as serial dilutions on SD-glucose plates containing 0 or 75 μM inositol and the supplements indicated at a concentration of 1 mM, and incubated at 30°C for 3 d. (B) Strains were patched on inositol-free SD-glucose agar plates containing the supplements indicated at 1 mM. Excretion of inositol results in growth of the inositol auxotrophic tester strain, as observed by a red halo around the patch.
