• Absence of healthy granulation tissue • Lack of adequate blood supply
• Failure of re-epithelialisation
• Presence of necrotic and unhealthy tissue in the wound bed • Cyclical or persistent pain
• Recurrent breakdown of wound
• Clinical or subclinical infection
• Excess exudate and slough
