Coupled systems robustly outperform uncoupled systems in gradient sensing. The ratio of the gradient comparator for coupled systems (Qc) to that of uncoupled systems (Q°) is plotted for a wide range of inductive signals in a two-cell system. Lateral coupling was maintained at its reference value (χ = χ°). The ratio Qc:Q° ≥ 1 in the entire domain of inductive signals.
