BDM inhibits formation of perinuclear virus assembly complexes. Vero cells were incubated in the absence (A) or presence (B) of 10 mM BDM and then infected with HSV-1 166v (MOI 50). Cells were then fixed immediately or 5 or 10 h p.i. as indicated, and the pattern of intrinsic fluorescence of GFP-VP22 was examined. BDM induced the retention of input material at the cell periphery, as indicated by arrowheads in panel B (0 h). The perinuclear accumulation of GFP-VP22 observed during the normal time course of infection (indicated by arrows in panel A, 5 h) was significantly reduced in the presence of BDM.
