(a) After histamine treatment, not only the number of adhesion events increased, but the number was higher at short relative displacements followed by a decrease to the control level at long relative displacements. (b) For control experiments the number of adhesion events did not vary in time, but for histamine treatment it peaked at ∼12 min and remained high for the duration of the experiment (dotted line, control; solid line, histamine treatment).
