Self-association of C60 molecules in the presence of a DNA molecule. (a) The starting configuration of two C60 molecules and a B-DNA molecule. (b) The stabilized hybrid of C60-DNA after 5-ns simulation. One C60 binds with an end of the DNA, while the other C60 associates with it. The binding energy between the two C60 molecules is −7.5 kcal/mol. It can be seen from the final configuration that the self-association of the two C60 molecules did not inhibit the binding between one C60 and one hydrophobic end of the DNA.
