Figure 2

Illustration of the TCR (a training system that enables users to perform role-based behaviors using a computer graphics avatar in a real, bustling commercial facility) intervention setting. The user (right) pushes a button or speaks into a microphone connected to a PC that controls the computer graphics (CG) avatar (AVACOM) displayed in a real, bustling commercial facility. Using the avatar, the user can communicate with unfamiliar individuals in real time. A peer sitting next to the operator was responsible for observing and evaluating the operator’s behavior. A trainer behind them provided encouragement, feedback, and persuasion to help the participants believe they could succeed after the intervention.
