Experimental schedule. Mice were rectally immunized twice (D1 and D15) with 8-2/6/7-VLP of bovine origin, either alone or in combination with adjuvant, and challenged with 10⁴ 50% shedding doses of murine RV strain ECw 6 weeks after the second immunization (D60). RV-specific antibodies were measured by ELISA on saliva, stool, and serum samples on the day of immunization (D1), 15 days after the second immunization (D30), and 15 days postchallenge (D75). Virus antigen was detected by ELISA in stool samples harvested on the day of challenge (D60) and on days 2, 3, 4, 5 (D61 to D64), and 8 (D67) postchallenge.
