Coexpression of U12comp restores CGRP expression from the calcitonin/CGRP-mut5 gene. RNA from cells transfected with 2 μg of wild-type (lanes 2,6) or mut5 calcitonin/ CGRP genes (lanes 2–4,7–9) were analyzed by reverse transcriptase and PCR using primers complementary to calcitonin exons 3, 4, and 5 and visualized as in Figure 4. Cells were cotransfected with 1 μg of wild-type U12 (lanes 3,8) or U12comp (lanes 4,9). DNA size markers are in lane 5.
