The binding site for the HIF-1 transcription factor (49,50) and the 5′-CCTG-3′ CSD protein-binding site identified here are indicated. An imperfect 5 bp inverted repeat (36,37) is also indicated by arrows. Non-coding (–) strand retardation oligonucleotide sequences (V5– to V10–) and sequences within reporter constructs (pTKV5Luc and pTKV7Luc) are given below with only those bases that vary from the wild-type indicated.
