Interventions were: culture frequency change from one to two times/week, prophylactic regimen changed from fluconazole to amphotericin B oral solution, and strict isolation procedures (see text). Index cases are those in whom C. krusei is most likely selected from their own flora by the use of fluconazole and defined as the first patient in time with a new genotype, a unique genotype, or those with a genotype encountered more than once, but acquisition by transmission was not plausible. Secondary cases are those admitted simultaneously on the same ward with an index case colonized with the same genotype.
