Expression kinetics of Orf49. BCBL-1 cells were induced into lytic reactivation with 25 ng/ml TPA or mock treated with DMSO. Total RNA was harvested at 12, 24, 36, 48, and 72 h postinduction and 10 μg RNA was loaded per well of a formaldehyde-agarose gel. Northern blot analysis with an Orf49-specific probe reveals two Orf49 transcripts (upper panel), a longer, 3.6-kb transcript and a shorter 1.2-kb species. Middle panel: Northern blot with an Orf50-specific probe to demonstrate reactivation.
