Effect of divalent cations on the sensitivity of S. meliloti to ethanol. Cultures of the wild-type strain Rm1021 and the bacA mutant were grown and exposed to gradients containing either 0 to 8% (vol/vol) (a and b) or 0 to 10% (vol/vol) (c and d) ethanol on LB plates exactly as described in Materials and Methods.
