(A) Homologous-pairing reactions promoted by RecT were done with three different pairs of single-stranded and duplex oligonucleotides: G16 (16% GC), G37 (37% GC) and inosine- substituted G37 (13% GC and 24% IC). The inosine residues were substituted in G37 in the place of guanines. (B) Two, four or six mismatches at the sites of A:T base pairs were created by transversions in the duplex substrates, G16 and G26 (28). The numbers in square brackets represents the number of transversions, i.e. mismatches present.
