The LD50 (left) and ID50 (middle) were determined after peripheral inoculation of adult mice as described in Materials and Methods. The attenuation index (right) was calculated as the LD50/ID50 ratio. The values for mutant C(Δ28-43) were taken from a previous study (14) and are included here to allow a comparison.
