Pharmacologic inhibition of intestinal motility compromises giardial clearance. Adult C57BL/6 mice were infected orally with 10⁴ G. muris cysts or with 10⁷ G. lamblia GS/M trophozoites. After 7 days (G. muris) or 4 days (G. lamblia), mice were given loperamide (Lop) or PBS orally every other day. Trophozoite numbers in the small intestine were determined at the indicated times after infection. Values are means ± SEM for eight to ten animals. *, P < 0.05, as determined by t test.
