The minimal level of fluorescence (F_o) of dark-adapted whole plants with all PSII reaction centers open was determined by switching on a pulsed measuring beam of red light. The F_m level with all PSII reaction centers closed was determined by a saturating pulse in the dark-adapted leaves (A).
