Effect of the λ attR flanking sequence on Fis-induced DNA bending. Gel mobility shift assays were performed with 0.5 nM Fis and either a 424-bp DNA fragment carrying the λ attR site immediately flanked on either side by 5 bp of natural sequence (λ attRnat) (lanes 1 and 2) or a 413-bp DNA fragment carrying the λ attR site flanked by a plasmid-derived sequence (λ attRpd) (lanes 3 and 4).
