EFsec is predominantly monomeric in the cytoplasm but exists in a complex in the nucleus. Cytoplasmic and nuclear extracts from cells transfected with an EFsec expression plasmid were electrophoresed on nondenaturing gels to preserve noncovalent interactions, followed by Western blotting for EFsec. EFsec was found to exist predominantly as a monomer in the cytoplasmic extract (middle lane) but migrated at ∼150 kDa in the nuclear lysate (right lane). untxtf, untransfected; cyt, cytoplasmic extract; nuc, nuclear lysate.
