Survival of SCID-beige mice following inoculation with wild-type B. bronchiseptica (Bb; open circles) and B. parapertussis (Bpp; open triangles) and the corresponding Δwbm mutants (closed symbols). Groups of four 4- to 6-week-old female mice were inoculated intranasally by a low-dose, low-volume regimen consisting of 500 CFU in 5 μl of PBS (A) or a high-dose, high-volume regimen consisting of 5 × 105 CFU in 50 μl of PBS (B).
