After incubation with and without ethambutol, cells were harvested at the times indicated, broken with a French press, and fractionated by centrifugation. The cell wall is the 27,000 × g pellet, the membrane is the 100,000 × g pellet, and soluble material is the 100,000 × g supernatant.
