Proteasome function mutants are sensitive to increased levels of Hmg1. A pre1-1, pre2-1 mutant strain and a congenic wild-type strain were transformed with either pAK266 or vector control plasmids. The left-most spot is inoculated from a culture at 1.4 × 106 cells per ml, followed by 1:5 serial dilutions. Images were taken after 12 days of growth at 16°C. Two independent pre1-1 pre2-1 transformants with the vector and pAK266 are shown for comparison.
