To determine whether NFA facilitates desensitization or blocks the response to BK, the preparation was pretreated with NFA (100 μm) for 30 min, and then the response to BK (1 μm) was normalized to the capsaicin (0.3 μm) response (BK1/Cap%). The response to capsaicin was not different between the control (n = 9) and NFA-pretreated groups (n = 5) in the number of evoked action potentials (140 ± 46 and 161 ± 30, respectively). BK1/Cap (%) in the NFA-pretreated group was significantly smaller than vehicle treated group (21 ± 6%versus 109 ± 26%, P < 0.05, t test).
