Hamsters in groups of 18 were inoculated on day 0 by the intranasal route using a 0.1-ml inoculum containing 6.0 log10 PFU of the indicated virus.
The level of virus replication is expressed as the geometric mean of the peak virus titers (log10 PFU/gram ± standard errors) for the animals in each group. The lower limit of detection is 0.7 log10 PFU/g. A value of 0.7 log10 PFU/g is assigned to samples with no detectable virus; samples from lungs on day 7 had no detectable virus.
The percentage of shedding is indicated for each group when different from 0 or 100%.
