In a prospective multi-institutional study from Europe, men with prostate cancer were randomized to receive treatment with combined androgen blockade beginning 1 week before radiation therapy and continuing for 3 years after treatment or radiation therapy alone. In addition to an improvement in disease-free survival, a significant overall survival improvement in the patients treated with neoadjuvant androgen deprivation was seen.
