The soybean root system was separated into three compartments, including the 0 to 1.5 cm taproot tip, the 1.5 to 6 cm taproot, and the taproot region >6 cm from the root tip that included lateral roots. Each compartment received its own P and Al treatments. Organic acid exudation was collected from the first 1.5 cm of the taproot tip and measured by capillary electrophoresis (see “Materials and Methods” for details).
