The unified model reproduces Koutalos et al.'s (1995) steady-state current measurements and simulations. Steady-state (SS) circulating current as a function of background LA. Data points: Koutalos et al.'s (1995) measures of salamander rod SS current in Ringer's (Δ) or under Ca2+ clamp (○). Solid curves: Corresponding predictions from our unified model. Dashed curves: Koutalos et al. model in which they adopted a dark calcium value of 500 nM. Data and model from Koutalos et al. were shifted along the horizontal axis to compensate for differences in sensitivity between their salamander rods, and our toad model, which was ∼38 times more sensitive than their salamander rod. The abscissa is correct for the unified model.
