(A) Cells were grown in M63 minimal medium at the optimal salinity (1.5 M NaCl), and the concentrations of ectoines were determined by HPLC at temperatures ranging from 20 to 45°C. (B) Cells were grown in M63 minimal medium at the optimal growth temperature (37°C), and the concentrations of ectoines were determined by HPLC at salinities ranging from 0.75 to 3.0 M NaCl. The data are averages of three different replicates, which on no occasion varied more than 5%.
