HP1γ cooperates with prohibitin to repress E2F-mediated transcription. MCF-7 cells were transiently transfected with 3 μg of E2CAT, E2CAT+E2F, and E2CAT+E2F+Phb, alone or in combination with HP1α, -β, and -γ. A total of 2 μg prohibitin or HP1 isoforms alone had little repressive effect on E2F1; the combination of prohibitin and HP1γ synergized to repress E2F1 activity significantly.
