Cells were grown overnight in 10 ml M9 medium supplemented with 3% (wt/vol) lactose, 100 μg · ml−1 ampicillin, and the amino acids required by the auxotrophic strains. PHB was measured by gas chromatography as described in Materials and Methods. The reported data are the averages of at least three determinations.
The amount of PHB is given as an average weight percentage of the CDW.
