Inhibitory effect of DCS on M. smegmatis Ddl activities. Enzyme activities were determined in cell crude extracts from mc2155 (solid squares), GPM14 (solid triangles), GPM259 (open triangles), GPM260 (open squares), and GPM265 (solid diamonds) in the presence of increasing concentrations of DCS. Percent inhibition was calculated (percent inhibition = 100 − 100 × [SAwith DCS/SAwithout DCS]; SA, specific activity) from three independent experiments. Statistical analysis was performed as described in Materials and Methods. The inhibition patterns can be divided into two groups (group I, mc2155, GPM14, GPM259, and GPM260; group II, GPM265). A significant difference between groups was detected (P = 0.02), while no significant differences within group I were detected (P = 0.28).
