Effects of magainin 2 (▪), indolicidin (•), and temporins L (▴) and B (▾) on the hydrolysis of PPHPC liposomes by bee venom sPLA₂ without added Ca²⁺ (A) and in the presence of 5 mM Ca²⁺ (B). Final lipid concentration is 1.25 μM in 2 ml of 50 mM Tris-HCl, 150 mM NaCl, pH 7.4. The reactions were started by adding 50 ng of PLA₂ into the cuvette, while temperature was maintained at 37°C with a circulating water bath. Each data point represents the mean of triplicate measurements. The standard deviation is less than 1 nmol of fatty acid/min and for the sake of clarity is not shown.
