Both wild-type and homozygous hsp101-m5::Mu1 kernels (L10) were allowed to imbibe for 1, 24, 48, or 72 h at 28°C in 0.1 mM CaCl2. After imbibition, kernels or seedlings were further incubated at 28°C until day 7 (168 h). Growth of both shoot and roots between the end of imbibition and day 7 was estimated as increase in length and percent viability. Data for growth are means ± sd.

a

Significantly different according to two-tailed t test (P < 0.005). All other pairs are not significantly different (P = 0.05). Combined data from three experiments.

b

Significantly different according to two-tailed t test (P < 0.002). All other pairs are not significantly different (P = 0.05). Combined data from three experiments.

c

Significantly different according to two-tailed t test (P < 0.001). All other pairs are not significantly different (P = 0.05). Combined data from three experiments.
