Participants compared VHA care to other health care facilities using a 5-point Likert response format: −2 = much worse, −1 = somewhat worse, 0 = the same, 1 = somewhat better, and 2 = much better.

Participants ranked the degree to which categories of VHA care were a barrier to their use: 1 = not at all, 2 = slightly, 3 = moderately, and 4 = greatly.

Italics indicate a significant difference, P<.05.
