A simulation of the free energy of association for two 6.2-Å Lennard-Jones spheres (ɛ_ij = 0.35kcal/mol) in water. This comparison shows that the aqueous models of g_c(r) (Fig. 3A) that reproduce the excess signal (Fig. 3B) are sensible.
